Years ago, I heard about the research within the Tree Ring Lab and was very interested in the work that its members conducted. Recently, I began volunteering with the lab and have been loving the experience! My help, so far, has taken place within the forestry building where I have sanded tree cores and marked their rings using specialized computer software. I am fascinated by the fact that, within these rings are hundreds of years of data waiting to be examined. Having the chance to assist with research while simultaneously gaining insight into the various procedures of sample analysis is an exciting and valuable opportunity. I know that the skills I gain now will be put to good use when I pursue a master’s degree of my own.
